All year I have been pissed at people telling me that I am not a true Democrat.

It's made me mad because I am a senior citizen who has voted a straight Dem ticket in every election since Carter. I'm even one of those people that show up at mid-terms and special elections.

But now I realize they were correct.

I believe in a living wage.
I believe in healthcare for all.
I believe that jobs should stay in the US & that pride in America means investing in its citizens, even if that means smaller profits for businesses.
I believe that nurturing our planet instead of tearing it apart should be a top priority.

Since the Democratic Party does not believe in these things, I realize now that I really am not a true Democrat.
They were right, I was wrong.

Yes. They called my party loyalty into question and I came to know they are right.

I don't belong in the Democratic Party.

I feel like an idiot myself. I participated on a Democratic message board for twelve years with over 10,000 posts while donating, volunteering and voting for Democrats but it turns out I'm not a Democrat, either.

I can't believe I wasted my time, energy and money like that. I won't even sign a loyalty pledge, and I want the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee to spend time in prison!

    It is embarrassing. :(

No, you were right, they were wrong. They are the faux Democrats not you. They may have taken over the Democratic Party but real Democrats, whether they are registered as Democrats or Independents, will fight them every step of the way. If we can't reclaim our Party from their grasp then we will start a new Party but we will always be real Democrats at heart. They will NEVER earn the right to be considered real Democrats.

It isn't my granddads Democratic party anymore. FDR brought electricity to his little area and saved his business from the bank. He had a picture of the man in his kitchen until the day he died. And you know what? I still believe that stuff, even though I may be the only of eight grandkids who does. And even though the party gave up on it a long time ago.

Maybe it actually is the "Democrat" party. Because it doesn't seem very democratic these days.

I still have the picture of FDR that hung in my grandparents house and it is going to have place of honor when my tiny house is remodeled. Him and a signed photo of RFK.

It is a family thing. My kid brother has JFK and I had once wanted a signed one of President Obama but I don't think he fits with them.

FDR was passed down to me and my sister-in-law worked for Robert and gave it to me.

You don't need the Obama photo but one of Bernie would fit in.

I have been struggling with this all election season. Longer, really, but this year has brought it into pretty stark relief. I have always been more about policy than Party, and never shy about criticizing Dems when it was right to do so. But I have a stubborn streak, and hate the idea of those of us on the left being pushed out to make space for those on the right who continue to hijack the Democratic Party. There's a part of me that responds to that with a strong "fuck you. It's my party as much as yours" It's a difficult question- whether those of us on the left who know the party is not serving us will be more effective fighting from the inside or challenging from the outside. Whether there is a chance- as Bernie seems to be trying- to reclaim the Democratic Party or if it's just too far gone to be salvaged.

Economic, environmental and war no longer count as issues in the New "Democratic" Party. The first is inexorable, the second is inevitable and the third is perpetual. Caring about these issues means you are out of step. Other issues now dominate the Party and they are sacrosanct and all- encompassing. Like me, you are no longer wanted or needed.

There are a lot of us in that same boat.

We did not leave the party, the party left us.

I have a picture of FDR that my husband's grandmother had hanging in her bedroom. His mother than hung it in her hallway and before she passed away a couple of years ago she gave it to me and I have it hung in my sewing room.

I am so with you, jillan.

If the Democratic Party doesn't support a living wage, healthcare for all, American jobs and protecting the earth I am no longer a Democrat. If the Democratic Party no longer believes in these principles, fuck the Democratic Party.

And there is no wiggle room. No more allowing the insurance industry to profit and pretend we have universal health care.

And while I'm at it, piss on Barack Obama and his lies. And fuck each and every Wall Street ass kisser that call themselves Democrats.

I'm just an old fart. Voted straight Dem my whole life, since McGovern, except for President in 2012. I voted Jill Stein. And she'll probably get my vote again, if Bernie don't make it. But, I'll be goddamned if I vote for Hillary Corruption. I've also managed 2 Democratic congressional campaigns, ran for Congress in 2004. and worked as senior staff on several other campaigns. But I'm not a real Democrat.

I logged off on that other joint over a week ago, and I went back to peek a couple of times this week. Without logging in, I could see a lot of posts from about 100 people that I started putting on ignore over the last year. These are Democrats? My gawd, it's even worse now than I thought. The place is for just about everything I'm against, and vice versa.

This is our new home. Let's make it work. And for those who don't know me, irreverent is my middle name, and I'm always the smart ass, so please bear with me.

    "Big Time"

    Gonna leave the pain behind
Gonna leave the fools in line
    Gonna take the magic potion
Gettin' in an old black car
Gonna take a ride so far
To the land of sun tan lotion
Gonna take it state by state
Til I hit the golden gate
Get my feet wet in the ocean

    I'm still living
    in the dream we had,
    For me it's not over...

Walkin on the bridge on day
    Lookin out across the bay
I saw a rippling in the water
Once a big ship had passed
    I borrowed a traveller's glass
    And focused on
    the ocean's daughter
Kind of like a wave confused
    Dancing in the sunset hews
    She waved to me
    and called me over

    I'm still living
    in the dream we had,
    For me it's not over...

Talkin' bout a friend of mine
    Talkin' bout a gold mine
    Richest vein in any mountain
    Talkin' bout the enemy
    Inside of me
    Talkin' bout
    that youthful fountain
    Talkin' bout you and me
    Talkin' bout eternity
    Talkin' bout the big time

    I'm still living
    in the dream we had,
    For me it's not over...

I posted a poll over there with a simple yes or no answer to the question "Do you support Fracking?"
Almost 400 hits, with only about 100 replies!! 300 people couldn't answer a yes or no question about destroying our planet for oil. That says a lot. The majority answered no, a couple people were brave enough to admit they were for it, and a handful said it's okay for a little while.

I've seen them argue against $15/hr and seen posters that are aghast that Bernie is against free trade. When I explain he is for fair trade, they don't get the difference.

Today's Democrats are the Republicans pre-Reagan.

On edit - us old farts need to stick together. After all, Bernie made us millennials - hehe.

For me it's every election since Bill Clinton. Gore, Kerry - I voted for whoever the party said was best. Even now I still feel bad for Obama because the g-damned racists in the Senate did everything they could to bring him down.

But this is where it ends. We have an amazing candidate in Bernie Sanders & Hillary should retire and back him. I don't care if Obama pardons her and she jets off to Argentina or wherever with Bill trailing behind. She needs to go. Her massive ineptitude at SOS was bad enough, but the election fraud was the stick that broke this camel's back. If Bernie is not my candidate I'm voting Green. If I had no choice but to pick between Donald and Hillary - her campaign would not like my choice.

I'm not a Democrat any more. After voting for Bernie in CT I became a Green. My way of protesting Hillary and DWS. I'm prepared to write in Bernie's name or vote for Dr Jill Stein.

I'm not a true Democrat either. We need party that offers dignity, not Tiny Dreams and MORE WAR.

We ARE the real Democrats. They just bought the logo and stole the copyright.

My first election as a Democrat I voted against Nixon. I grew up in a New Deal-Great Society household. My parents marched and sat in for Equality, Peace and Respect, and so did I.

The Hillsbury wing do not want anyone with actual Democratic history in the party. They stole it in a leveraged buy-out with money from Goldman Sachs.

I came to that conclusion as well. I realize that there is not even a need to get mad at those other "Democratic Supporting" websites that don't want me any more, as they are the Third Way Dems, who control not only those sites, but also the media and think they can continue to run the country.

I guess I can't blame them for thinking that way. The "lesser of two evils" meme worked well for them in 2012.

But most of the people I know won't fall for it again. We have a great candidate and he is going to win the Presidency.

The healthcare, needs, the jobs needs, the overall end-the-warsand put that money into education for all, those things are what I am behind.

Count me in whenever your thoughts turn to how that the Old Party is corrupt and stinky. The wave of the future is us, not them., shut-down-the-prisons etc

What I find additionally infuriating is the talk about how more people supported H and therefore "the loser" shouldn't have a say in the platform. When Bernie says GO BOLD, he recognizes that a PLATFORM is base-line IDEOLOGY. What do we want our country to look like? What do we believe in? How can anyone say they believe our goal should only be that SOME have health care, SOME earn a living wage, etc.? Our platform should reflect our HIGHEST ideals, our STARTING point for negotiation, not "what do we think we can get AFTER negotiation, if we're lucky". It's not a difficult concept. At least, it didn't use to be!

    Thanks, jillian.
